Chrismas News 2015

 2015 is coming to a close ...
but we are building toward 2016!

Dear Friends, Supporters and Partners,

2015 has not been the smooth sailing Pre-Olympic year our team may have envisioned!

After Nathalie tore her knee ligaments during the Miami World Cup in January; it was a dubious start to the season. However, working hard to get back on the water in time for March's World Cup in Palma, Spain, paid off, as the team was rewarded with a Silver Medal at the following Weymouth leg of the World Cup in June. As the waves crest and trough though, the team faced the reality of not being able to capitalise to meet the required personal Olympic selection criteria at either the Denmark World Championships (July) or Olympic Test Event in Rio (August).

The desire for a summer of performance – had been met with challenges and questions. Fortunately though, these past weeks has seen the re-arrival of the true Team Buhler/Brugger with a Podium on the Olympic waters of Rio in the South American Championships, and a Medal-Race finish in the Copa Brasil de Vela.

The next possibility to earn our Olympic ticket now approaches with the 2016 World Championships to be held in Clearwater, Florida in February. Following a long training block in Rio throughout December until just days before Christmas, the pieces of the puzzle will come together as we begin our preparations in Miami in the first week of January with our favourite boat and supported be a new coach – Mitch Booth.

Thankyou as always to all of you – our friends, family, supporters and sponsors for your help and support!

We wish you all a great Christmas period, and fair winds for the best start in 2016. We will be looking to do you proud!

Your team: Nathalie and Matìas

POSITIVES and CONFIDENCE for 2016.

This pre-Olympic year has provided the unique opportunity for a number of training periods on the very complicated Olympic Waters of the bay of Rio de Janeiro. The team could experience and experiment across each of the 7 different race courses with each of their subtleties and variances. The courses outside the mouth of the Guanabana bay offer waves and more constant winds, while the inner bay courses present complex currents, and often-inconsistent winds and flatter water. Having the opportunity to visit Rio multiple times has helped to unravel some of the mysteries of the local winds and current and has proved extremely valuable.

It has not been a season of only challenges, but far from that, with huge experience gained on our #RoadToRio , and many successful performances throughout the 2015 season:

A new wind is blowing in the team with the arrival of a new coach – Mitch Booth.

Mitch is a legend in the World of Olympic Catamaran sailing, with 4 Olympic participations in the Tornado class (1992, 1996, 2004, 2008) resulting in 2 Olympic Medals, and numerous World and European Medals. With the experience of 64 World Championship participations, and 10 World Titles - there is little doubt that Mitch will be able to bring to our campaign many of the elements of his 'Olympic science' to help us to achieve our Olympic dream of a Medal in 9 months time.

Obviously our team would not be in the position to have such an ambitious goal without the help of our previous coach Sebbe Godefroid, and we owe him much for his guidance, help and support! Thank you Sebbe!
